Chambers of Commerce and Progress Associations
Progress Associations are community groups based in a particular suburb. Their objectives are varied but generally are to promote the interests of their suburb, the welfare and advancement of the residents and the suburb and to create a stronger sense of community.
Chambers of Commerce are organisations made up of small, medium and large businesses. Their objectives vary but are generally to network with other professionals, support growth of the businesses and the local community, undergo training, understand issues facing their businesses and advocate issues with government and media.
Precincts Committees
“Precinct Committees are organised by the residents and are advisory. Precinct meetings are one avenue for informing Council of community opinion and maintaining the flow of two-way communication between community members and Council staff and Councillors. Precincts comments are responded to and considered by Council in its statutory decision making role. Precinct Committees also encourage social interaction within their local community by coordinating events” (North Sydney Council).
Streetscape Groups
“North Sydney Council partners with local retailers and businesses to improve the ambience of these local shopping areas through its streetscape program. The program includes the development of masterplans for the various areas.” (North Sydney Council)
